Subaru’s eighth Share the Love Event supports Metro Detroit’s seniors
Detroit Area Agency on Aging is proud to announce it has received a grant from Meals on Wheels America for its participation in Subaru of America’s eighth annual Share the Love Event. During the event held from November 22, 2015 through January 2, 2016, Subaru of America, Inc. donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer’s choice of participating charities, including Meals on Wheels America, of which Detroit Area Agency on Aging is a Member.
“We centered our social media campaign during our annual Holiday Meals On Wheels program to ‘share the love.’ The Holiday Detroit Meals On Wheels program goal is to nourish the lives of the home-bound seniors in need through hot home-delivered meals by community volunteers on the holidays. We are grateful for this grant because it helps us promote dignity and independent living – and share love to our seniors,” said Paul Bridgewater, President and CEO of Detroit Area Agency on Aging.
The 2015 holiday season campaign focused on raising donations and awareness of senior isolation and hunger in Metro Detroit. To see some of photos from the DAAA Share the Love activities, go here: http://bit.ly/sharethelovedaaa
“Over the last eight years, Subaru and its local retailers have truly become an extension of the Meals on Wheels family, and their impact is felt long after this popular year-end event concludes,” said Ellie Hollander, Meals on Wheels America President and CEO. “Subaru’s continued investment in the Meals on Wheels movement helps communities across the country deliver more nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks to our most vulnerable seniors.”
DAAA depends on donations to help deliver meals on the holidays. “Donations from the community and corporations helps ensure that seniors throughout southeast Michigan can enjoy a warm, festive meal and a visit from a friendly volunteer on holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Labor Day and Easter,” said Bridgewater.
The 2015-2016 Share the Love funds will continue to benefit local Meals on Wheels America Member organizations throughout the year through additional grant opportunities, Annual Conference scholarships and by sponsoring the organization’s annual March for Meals campaign.
